Hey, I'm Kortney! I'm a software engineer with 7+ years of experience in web development, building sites, apps, APIs, and more. My focus is Backend Development with experience in cloud technologies like Amazon Web Services.
About me
After finishing up my undergraduate degree in Information Technology, I accepted a fulltime offer from a company I had interned with the previous summer, Synovus Financial Corp. This opportunity provided a critical chance for me to deep-dive into the world of financial technology, and also my first real peek into the world of software development. I've always enjoyed building things, whether it be from Lego blocks as a kid, or the various components of a computer. A fascination with the way things work, and how to make them work better, drives me to constantly seek out new technologies and techniques to help me develop solutions to problems and better myself.
Over the course of my career I have worked in various industries, such as financial tech, medical billing tech, and even sports betting tech. I have worked with a variety of technologies, such as Java, Ruby on Rails, and Go, and have learned so much along the way. I most recently gained a keen interest in cloud technologies due to the nature of my current role, and have been working with AWS to help build and maintain the infrastructure for our applications. This interest even led me to pursue and obtain the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner - Foundational certification, and I don't plan on stopping there. So with that said, I am excited to see what the future holds, and I am eager to continue learning and growing as a software engineer.
When I'm not coding, I enjoy playing video games, reading, spending time with my friends and family, cycling, and weightlifting. I am also a huge movie buff, and I'm always up for a good discussion about the latest movie or show!

My experience
Graduated from Columbus State University
Columbus, GA
I became a Bachelor of Information Technology, laying a solid foundation for my career in the tech industry. But of course, I had so MUCH more to learn.
Synovus Financial Corp
TIBCO Developer
Columbus, GA
This was my first big time developer role working on the Middleware Integration team writing and maintaining SOAP APIs, and generally getting used to professional development. But I had started to stagnate after a couple years in the modern dev skills of the time.
Aspirion Health Resources
Software Developer
Columbus, GA
This position was a hard reset and I learned a TON. I worked as one of two fullstack developers, handling everything from automating PHP scripts to changes on the Wordpress site. I began to do my own self study to a higher degree, and I really fell in love with programming again.
PrizePicks
Software Engineer II
Atlanta, GA
My first startup position was another big boost as a software engineer, expanding my skills and knowledge of backend web development considerably. I also learned a lot about the sports betting industry, which was a fun bonus. I was able to work remotely for the majority of my time there, which was a great experience in itself.
doxo
Software Engineer II
Bellevue, WA
At doxo, I got to work on some really impactful systems, managing and scaling the Subscriptions Platform API (over 10M subscriptions) and helping lead the Credit and Identity Platform API. It was a big step up in terms of ownership, and I learned a lot about keeping APIs healthy, resilient, and well-documented. Honestly, this role pushed me to think more like a systems engineer than just a feature developer.
U.S. Bank
Senior Software Engineer
Atlanta, GA
Just starting out at U.S. Bank, I’m stepping into a senior engineering role where I’ll be building scalable backend services in Go and helping shape system architecture in a Fortune 500 environment. I’m looking forward to mentoring teammates, growing my expertise in distributed systems, and navigating the challenges of working in a highly regulated, security-first setting.
